The lower eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against and damage the surface of the eye, potentially leading to conjunctival and corneal ulcers that increase the risk of eye infections.
Entropion is usually associated with aging (senile entropion), but can also result from trauma or eyelid tumors.
Surgery to correct the position and function of the eyelid can be performed on an outpatient basis, using local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia, as appropriate. This case was operated under general anesthesia.
