The lower eyelid turns outward.

While ectropion is usually age-associated (senile), in this case, it occured after a facial traumatic event.

It can lead to eye dryness, irritation, and tearing (reactive epiphora). An unprotected and dry conjunctiva can lead to ulcers and eye infections.

Ectropions can be corrected on an outpatient basis, using local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia, as appropriate. In this case, the surgery was performed under local anesthesia.
